WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I CLICK APPLY?
Many people wonder just what happens once they click ‘Apply’ on a job advertisement. M&T Resources has clear processes in place:
Instantly: you should receive an email acknowledging receipt of your application. If you have applied via SEEK or any other major job board, your details have been imported directly to our database, and are linked to the job you’ve applied for. Your details are now ready to be reviewed by M&T Resources.
Within 72 hours: We will call you for a telephone interview, or email you if your application has not been successful. It’s important to remember that our clients provide us with very specific briefs about their ideal new employee, and we may receive large numbers of applications so we’re not always able to interview everyone.
Once your telephone interview has been completed, we will advise you of the next step: if your skills and experience match the brief our client has provided, we will invite you to attend a
face-to-face interview at our nearest office. At this time you should think about referee details you can provide us with (a direct supervisor is always best), and gather together evidence of any completed qualifications, visa information and other documentation which will support your application.
At the interview, you can expect to spend anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour dependent on the role, and you will be asked about your short and long-term career goals, your salary expectations, your availability to commence in a role, the profile of your ideal job and employer, and you will be asked to provide specific examples from your employment history.
After this more in-depth discussion,
we will give you a full brief on the position, including rates of pay, location, the organisation’s culture, history and much more. We will also advise you whether we think you are suitable to be put forward for the position. We can’t always guarantee this at the time of interview, as sometimes we are interviewing a large number of applicants, and can only submit a limited final shortlist to our client. We will certainly be able to
give you an outline of the recruitment process and expected timelines though.
If you are successful to the shortlist stage, we will ask you for referee details, and will conduct at least one, if not two,
reference checks to provide to our client along with your details.
The next step is the client interview. Your M&T Resources team member will give you a comprehensive briefing including whom you will be meeting with, what key strengths you should highlight at interview, and how to address any ‘left-field’ areas which may be in your employment history.
Following client interviews (there could be anywhere from 1 to 3 interviews),
we will negotiate the pay rate and start dates and any other components of the salary package on your behalf. For contract roles we will then invite you back to our office to sign all the relevant documentation and provide you with a
comprehensive induction. For permanent roles we will ensure that the client draws up your
letter of offer and employment contract in a timely and accurate manner.
Once you’ve started in your new role, your M&T Resources team member will keep in regular contact with both you and your manager to ensure the ongoing success of the placement. We encourage an open and honest dialogue between all parties at all times, and our best interest lies in assisting happy people to work with happy businesses.
This is our standard process; however, we do have some special client partners with different requirements. These may include security clearances, psychometric assessments or technical skills testing. Should this be the case we will always inform you of the process up front to ensure constant and open communication.
