We are seeking an experienced Senior System Administrator to provide technical leadership and support in a complex enterprise environment. The successful contractor will have strong experience in Unix Solaris and RedHat Linux environments, enterprise hosting, and database administration, while also performing 2IC duties and mentoring a small team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a small team of system administrators (2IC function)
  • Administration of Solaris Virtual Platforms (Logical Domains, Containers) and RedHat Linux (including Docker/Podman virtualisation)
  • Proactive monitoring of servers and services, capacity planning, and server build/configuration
  • Administration of Oracle, Ingres, PostgreSQL database platforms
  • Administration of Middleware Tuxedo and Web Server environments
  • Perform periodic disaster recovery testing, backup, and recovery
  • Manage hardware upgrades, software licensing, and maintenance renewals
  • Configure and administer Puppet Enterprise and RedHat Satellite
  • Provide technical advice and hosting solutions to clients
  • Maintain quality documentation and reporting
  • Assist with other aspects of Application Hosting – Unix services as directed

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience providing Application Hosting – Unix (AHU) services for large corporate Solaris and RedHat systems
  • Strong technical leadership skills and experience managing small teams
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and results-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience in vulnerability scanning, capacity planning, and proactive system monitoring
  • Ability to provide detailed oral and written technical advice to clients
Essential Qualifications/Certifications/Skills The Contractor must have demonstrated experience and specialist knowledge of the following:
  • Oracle Certified Professional
  • Solaris 10, 11.4 and RedHat Linux System Administration 7,8,9
  • Solaris (SVP) environment and RedHat Linux virtualisation (VMware) (Logical Domains and Containers)
  • Oracle SPARC server fleet
  • Unix Shell scripts, PERL, PHP, Bash, and other relevant scripting languages
  • Oracle Database platform administration (v11, v12, v18, v19c and v21c)
  • Cloud Linux IaaS and PaaS
  • Installation and management tool sets for both Linux and Solaris environments including cloud platforms.
  • Installation and administration of Puppet enterprise for Solaris and Satellite for Linux, Centos 8, RH 8 & 9. Providing high availability, managing Puppet configuration, integration and scripting across these environments, including Orchestrating Puppet, tasks and plans.
  • With Ingres, PostgreSQL, and Oracle Database System Administration
  • Apache Tomcat Administration (v 10 and v 11)
  • Oracle WebLogic Administration (v14.1.2)
  • Oracle Tuxedo Administration (V22.1.0.0.0)
  • Nagios (v 4.4.8) Administration
  • AWS and Azure Architecture, System operations, including servers builds and associated tool sets across theses cloud environments.
  • Good working knowledge of VMware
  • Good working knowledge of storage, NAS, SAN, Backup, Network, and Security infrastructure
  • Specialist knowledge in Cloud platforms, services, and products in particular ( AWS and AZURE)

Highly Desirable Qualifications/Certifications/Skills

Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field, or equivalent experience.
