About the role
As the EL2 Solution Architect you will be required to coordinate and assume responsibility to undertake detailed or sensitive projects.  
Your role will be responsible for actively managing key internal and external stakeholder relationships and is a key role providing technical leadership for the ongoing enhancement of core technology platforms.   
 
Working with the business this role will be responsible for solution architecture across the Cloud Infrastructure domain.
You will ensure all solutions within their domain are both technically robust, secure, accessible, and provide the best fit for the business, aligning to both the business and technology strategies and roadmaps.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver high-quality solution architectures that align with business objectives and agency goals.
  • Ensure solutions are fit for purpose, scalable, secure, and cost-efficient.
  • Architect, develop, and manage scalable and secure AWS/Azure cloud environments with a focus on automation, performance optimization, and cost efficiency.
  • Engage with business and project teams to understand tactical and strategic objectives and requirements.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architects, solution leads, business representatives, development teams, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure solution alignment across domains.
  • Monitor and assess the current-state solution portfolio to identify deficiencies, legacy systems, and technical debt.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance system performance and alignment with business needs.
  • Provide technical oversight and facilitate the resolution of complex issues arising during project delivery.
  • Offer enterprise guidance through governance activities, reference models, and architecture standards to ensure alignment with future-state visions.
  • Lead and produce the delivery of coherent technical solutions and documentation across the domain.
  • Oversee the maintenance and upgrade of IT platforms, including performance assessments, patching, and system integration planning.
  • Ensure comprehensive documentation, knowledge management, and architecture visualization.

Technical skills:

  • Proficiency in server-side programming languages (Java, Python, Ruby, .NET, Node.js) and server technologies.
  • Strong command of SQL (MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis) databases.
  • Proficiency with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Git, Docker, Kubernetes) and configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Control-M).  Understanding of Big Data technologies (Hadoop, Spark) and enterprise data warehousing solutions (Teradata, Snowflake etc).
  • Knowledge of system development life cycle methodologies (Agile, DevOps, etc.).
  • Experience with IT service management (ITSM) and frameworks like ITIL.
  • Knowledge of security frameworks and standards such as ISM, ASD Blueprints, and Essential 8.
  • High level of expertise of cloud platforms (AWS, Microsoft Azure) and cloud-native technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, serverless computing). • Ability to design and maintain IT standards, controls, and architectural models (e.g., UML).
  • Skilled in performance engineering and troubleshooting complex technical issues.

 Essential criteria:

  • Minimum 5 years of Architecture experience with broad technical knowledge, including demonstratable experience leading the design of complex enterprise cloud platforms.
  •  Demonstrated ability to design and implement enterprise-level multi-cloud infrastructure solutions that align with business goals and architectural standards.
  • Capacity to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively across business and technical teams.
  • Ability to motivate cross-functional teams, influence stakeholders including executives, and provide architectural governance in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Evidence of applying government security frameworks, ITSM practices, and performance engineering in enterprise-level multi-cloud infrastructure.
  • Ability of acting as the business’ conduit into the ICT function for design and requirements resolution.
    Desirable criteria
  • Bachelor of Science/Business in Information Technology or equivalent tertiary qualification
  • Industry experience across health or insurance sectors, or other related industries with large customer bases in a cloud environment.
  • TOGAF certified or equivalent IT architectural qualification; Azure or AWS cloud experience
    • Previous experience as Solution/Domain/Technical Architect, Programme Lead Architect as well as experience working in both Agile/DevOps and Structured delivery environments.
