SQL Database Developer – NV1 Clearance Required

Join a mission-critical government project with real impact Are you a seasoned Senior Software Developer with expertise in SQL Server and business analysis, looking for a highly impactful role in national systems? Our client is seeking a motivated and capable software professional to join the GENESYS Business Unit (GBU) – a specialist team delivering powerful web-based tools for complex decision-making in government operations.

About the role As part of a high-performing team in Canberra, you’ll contribute to the design, development, and sustainment of the GENESYS system – a custom-built, multi-tier Microsoft tech stack platform supporting essential government functions like Risk Management, Costing, Movement, and Capability Synchronisation.

This is an onsite role, with some flexibility possible for the right candidate. Occasional interstate travel may be required.

Your key responsibilities:

• Analyse and model user requirements and translate them into robust physical database implementations
• Design, optimise and implement SQL Server solutions – including views, stored procedures, and SSIS/SSRS packages
• Engage with stakeholders to define innovative and secure software solutions
• Apply sound business analysis skills to refine user requirements and deliver valuable outcomes
• Work flexibly across development tasks within a small, agile team
• Contribute to continuous process improvement and maintain high-quality documentation

What you’ll need to succeed: Essential:

• Proven ability to rapidly analyse and model user needs into scalable database solutions
• Expertise in SQL Server Development, SSIS (ETL), and SSRS
• Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
• Demonstrated experience delivering secure, high-performance systems
• Business analysis experience within complex enterprise or government environments
• Adaptability and eagerness to learn specialised toolsets and domain knowledge

Desirable:

• Experience delivering presentations or user training in small groups
• Familiarity with analytics tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, Cognos)
• Understanding of database administration and performance tuning

✔ Be an Australian citizen
✔ Hold or be eligible to obtain NV1 (Negative Vetting Level 1) security clearance
✔ Confirm eligibility to work in Australia
✔ Disclose any previous work with GBU or other government agencies
